Summer Term (13)
Finningley C.E School
12th July 2010
Dear Parents and Carers,
Well here we are at the last week
of the school year and what a busy ones it's been. I hope everyone received
their child's report on Friday (Year 6 today) and was pleased with the new
format. Any comments on how useful it was are more than welcome. I thought I
would add a little explanation of National curriculum levels to help you
place your child's position and progress.
National Curriculum Levels Explained
National Curriculum levels go from W (for working toward level 1) to level 5
in Primary Schools.
Where children are working below level 1 teachers will give them a 'P' level
which splits up the W level into smaller chunks so that progress can be
seen. The 'P' levels are organised in the following sequence:
P1 P8 with P1 being the lowest.
Once a child has achieved level 1 the levels progress as follows:
W
At the end of Year 2 it is expected that the
'average' child will achieve level 2B.
At the end of Year 4 it is expected that the
'average' child will achieve level 3B.
At the end of Year 6 it is expected that the
'average' child will achieve level 4B.
NB. I have put 'average' in inverted commas as we believe at Finningley that
every child is an individual, and should be treated as such, however the
government use the term 'average' to measure attainment so this is how we
have to express the information.

Each year a child should make one and a half sub levels progress (e.g. From
2c to a secure 2b or just into 2a) At Finningley we target the children to
make two sub levels every year to help them achieve their best.
I hope this helps you to understand where your child is, in terms of
attainment. If any parent needs further clarification please do not hesitate
to contact the school.
Jelly Bean Cup/Summer Fayre
On Tuesday we are holding our annual Jelly Bean Football cup from 3.15 -
6.00pm with the Summer Fayre running alongside it. The Fayre will start at
3.00pm so if you wish to come early and pick your children up early let the
Class Teacher know, and children must be collected from the outside door of
your child's class. Fingers crossed for a little nice weather!
We do hope your child will come and support our event, and join in the fun
Children's and Adult Races at 4pm.
Cheerleaders are giving a demonstration at 3.15pm and Taekwondo at 5.45pm so
please come along to watch.
School will finish as normal for the children not collected at 3pm. We still
need more helpers (from 1pm onwards please) and tombola prizes to the
Office.
After School Clubs
There will be no KS1 Football or Gardening Club (children who attend these
may join Film Club if they do wish).
Also as previously sent out Wednesday is the last day for After School
Clubs and when we return in September Clubs will start again on Monday 6th
September. A new list will be sent out as soon as possible.
This Thursday is Mr. Kilvington's retirement do and the staff will be
leaving school early to get ready for the event. I will be supervising the
children in the hall watching a DVD so Key Stage Two children will be
leaving from the doors between Mrs. Shekles and Miss Waszak's class and Key
Stage One will be supervised out of their normal doors.
On Friday Key Stage Two children are in Church first thing to help us say
goodbye and good luck to our departing Year 6. Parents need to drop children
off at the Church for 9.00am and we aim to start by 9.15am. All are welcome
and I hope to see you there. Those in Breakfast Club will be escorted over
by me at 8.45am.
See Saw Club Preschool
See Saw are holding an open morning on 2nd September 10am - 11am, please
come along to meet the staff and see the facilities available for children
aged 2 - 4 years old.
Everyone is welcome: Parents and their children who are starting in
September and parents and their children who are looking for a childcare
setting for the future.
Any enquiries regarding See Saw please contact Elaine on: 07855 063098
Head Lice
We have had a couple of reports of Head Lice in some classes, so if you
could please take the holidays as an opportunity to ensure that your
children are free from Lice.
Finally thank you for your support and partnership this year, have a good
summer and we look forward to seeing you in the Autumn on Thursday September
the 2nd.
Yours Sincerely
Head Teacher
