FINNINGLEY RAMBLERS

Barrie and Cynthia Scully are going for a walk on Sat 29th May.  We are meeting at the Village Hall at 10:00 am.   The walk will be at Serlby Park and is approx 3miles long and is easy walking.  Please ring Barrie on 770992 if you have any queries.

The morning of our April walk could not have dawned more perfectly.  In spite of volcanic ash grounding all UK airports the sun was shining for us, making our exploration of the woods on the banks of the River Don at Sprotbrough a wonderful experience.  The walk was led by John, Tricia and David Haigh and the route they planned took us zigzagging through Sprotbrough Plantation and Pot Ridings Wood to get the full benefit of the spring flowers carpeting the woodland before the full canopy of the trees shade them out.  Tricia’s vast knowledge of flora kept us well informed and following  paths edged with Lesser Celandine we saw swathes of Wood Anemone, small pockets of Sweet White Violet and Dog Violet, and dainty creamy yellow Primroses.  The Wild Garlic, Bluebells and Dog’s Mercury will be ready to bloom in the coming week.  After our exploration of the woodland we dropped down to the banks of the River Don and made our way back to the Boat Inn (no! we did not go in!).  Thank you to the Haighs for a lovely experience.

Anyone wishing to join us on our occasional walks will be very welcome.  Information can be obtained from Barrie Scully on 770992.
