December Gardening
DECEMBER
December is a difficult time for gardening-- so dependent on the weather. Continue to gather leaves for your compost. Deciduous trees, roses & shrubs can be planted (or moved) if the soil is not too wet or frosted. Care should be taken to eliminate draughts in greenhouses & outhouses. Check plants left in cold frames & unheated greenhouses. Look for slugs & snails holing up in crevices. Keep house plants on the dry side & give them plenty of light. Examine regularly for signs of pests such as greenfly—they can still be active in mild winter weather. Conservatory plants can be badly affected before you realise it. Collect holly & ivy for Christmas decorations.
