June Gardening
June gardening news & views
Were you inspired by the wonders of Chelsea Flower Show? June is always a busy month for gardeners- finish putting out your bedding plants and put shading on your greenhouse to stop the interior from over-heating so that tomato plants & trays of young plants inside will not be scorched. Step up watering & gradually increase ventilation to help plants withstand the warmth. Hanging baskets are filling up nicely, they are ready to hang up now---check your brackets first.
Early flowering clematis are doing well, carefully train them into the shape YOU want.
This clematis is climbing through a ceanothus. Soloman`s seal (fully hardy) brightens up a shady spot, but can be invasive. Rhododendrons are thriving with a dose of sequestrine.
Superbum(Polygonum) are at their best – but need to be controlled.
Choisia-Sundance lightens up a shady area & will flower again in Autumn.
Spireas (bridal wreath, Snow-white & Snowmound) will need flowering stems cut down as they fade.
Alliums have flowered well despite foliage withered by frost.
Runner beans in a tub are growing quicker than those in open ground.
Early potatoes in a tub are looking very healthy. These are the
second boiling from a few early seed potatoes planted in an old hanging basket
on 28th Feb. Lawns:- rapid growth means weekly mowing, no better way to show off your borders!
