May Gardening
May Weekend is upon us.
The weather continues to be changeable. Do not be tempted to put your
bedding plants out yet - they can certainlt be hardened off on warm days &
will enjoy the showers of rain - ( house plants too ) - but watch out for
frosts - inevitable this month.
It is a good to put weed & feed on your lawns, then scarify or rake the moss
out. It will not compost so dispose of it in your empty green bin.
Look out for greenfly on roses, and slugs & snails - especially around
Hostas.
Continue to stake perennials as they grow.
Dead-head bulbs as they fade and give them a feed as the leaves die back.
Fruit trees are setting well.
Cover potatoes in tubs if frost threatens and prepare a site for beans and
salad crops.
