Painting The Village Blue.
Easter Monday morning saw the ladies of Finningley Village Institute, armed with trowels, forks rakes and packets of seeds, converging on the car park of the Village Hall. The purpose? In answer to a national initiative from the Womens's Institute for the creation of areas which would attract and provide the necessary food for the much threatened and and much diminished native honey bee. After a brief discussion the party split into groups and set off plant seeds in hand, some provided by “Mr Fothergills Seeds” and others by group members, to sow seeds that are hopefully to the bees liking, in the gardens on the different greens we are lucky to have throughout the village. On the green outside the senior citizens bungalows on Old Bawtry Road where there are no set gardens, the areas around the mature trees were weeded and planted and the help of residents, Colin and Barbara enlisted to ensure that the seedlings received plenty of water. The procedure created a lot of interest from passing people and many applauded the efforts of those involved. About an hour and a half later the group re-assembled to enjoy a quick cup of tea before setting off to enjoy the rest of the Easter Day. Well done!
P.A.C.T Meeting Finningley Village Hall Tuesday 6th April 2010.
The meeting started at 7.15 p. m.and was attended by residents from Auckley, Finningley, Branton and Bawtry.
The following areas were addressed :- speeding, crime figures, fly tipping and parking outside school premises.
Speeding continues to be a issue in all villages and it was clear that this would have to be addressed long term and action and enforcement continue to be a priority.
Crime figures are happily very low in the local area, Finningley having none in the last month. It was emphasised, however that people should remain vigilant, making sure that nothing is left in sight in parked vehicles, Sat/navs not only removed but the tell-tale ring left by many on window screens ,wiped clean and immobilizers used as well as car alarms wherever possible.
Fly tipping is also a priority and in Auckley permission has been sought to make Common Lane a gated area. This is now proceeding and the lessons learned throughout the process will help in future such actions. A similar move is being considered in relation to Old Bawtry Road in Finningley but no decision has been made and it is likely that any such action will not be for some time.
Branton raised the issue of cars parking on the yellow zigzag lines outside schools. P.C. Thompson said it was not within the power of the team to take action on this as this was a matter for the regular police force. He pointed out that anyone charged and found guilty of parking on the zigzag lines is subject to a £60.00 fine and three points on their license and that people should be made aware of that fact.
The meeting closed at 8p.m.
The next meeting is in Blaxyon Village Hall on May 4th at 7.30p.m.
