Not sure what to do with yourself?

This section is designed to spread information about what is available locally that may be of interest to villagers and visitors to our village.

Let us know of any places that you can suggest that residents may be interested in going to now that the days are getting longer and warmer, whether it be a local pub, restaurant, entertainment venue, play, fete, school open day, fund-raising event.  Email your ideas to contact@finningley.org or drop them off at 47 Harvey Close, Finningley or 18 Gatesbridge Park, Finningley - please mark your contributions "Out and About" to ensure that they are added to the correct section.

The Harvey Arms has reopened for business

The opening night of 28th July was a real success for the new owners Andy, Michael and Tim.

The Blue Bell Has Reopened!

Dave, Kerry and their team look forward to you calling in for a drink or a meal and they want you to know that it is still a pub that serves food as well.

The interior has been tastefully refurbished to create a welcoming bar area with a number of beers on tap.  The olde-world pub features have been retained and there is a warm welcome waiting for you.

Food is available Tuesday to Sunday inclusive.  Sunday lunch is available from 12 noon until 4.00 p.m. starting at £6.95.

Tuesday night offers free pool and bottles from £2.00 each.

It is recommended that you book for Friday evenings on 770424.

Fancy a dance?

Awaken Village Interest in Dance – or AVID as it is locally and affectionately known – is a community based organisation which aims to increase involvement in folk dancing and playing. They run ‘session’ ceilidhs in different villages each month. The dances are very informal.

There is:
    No band booked. Instead anyone who wants to play can do so.

No amplification.
    This means that the dance is ready to organise and no-one is daunted by a PA.

An emphasis on having fun.

Bawtry Golf Club

Walkers Nurseries and Garden Coffee Room

This is a long established business, just 5 minutes from Finningley, on Mosham Road Blaxton, DN9 3BA is the ideal place to go for garden inspiration.  There is a vast selection of vegetable and flower plants, bulbs, seeds, trees, bushes, fencing, and so on. The list is so long that you just have to take a breather in the Garden Coffee Room where food and beverages are available between 9 am to 4.30 pm daily.

Once you have recovered why not have a wander through the beautiful gardens that have been a feature of this nursery for many years and also their new landscaped area which only opened to the public in 2009?

Bank End Farm Shop, Cafe and Fisheries

The farm shop is an ideal place to buy fresh local vegetables, egg, milk and meats along with produce from other parts of the world.  The home-made venison pies (ask if there is any gravy) are a perfect meal with vegetables. Take one home today.

The café is an ideal way to sample some of the goods on offer in the shop. With seating for 36, you can enjoy a quiet five minutes with a cup of tea and a cake, or tuck into a hearty pie that is guaranteed to satisfy the healthiest of appetites. Why not give the kitchen a rest and have a satisfying cooked breakfast?

The fisheries comprise of three well-stocked lakes that are open to the public throughout the year, it is the perfect venue for fishing enthusiasts.

Finningley Holy Trinity & St Oswalds Church

This church is mainly 11th century, although the south door is possibly Saxon.  Much of the building is Elizabethan.  Inside there is much to see, including a Jacobean pulpit (1604), a Norman tub font and carved medieval coffin lids.  There are wonderful stained glass windows and an impressive collection of carved and painted roof bosses. The church is accessible to all.
