Dropped kerbs, Finningley Post Office area. GREAT NEWS! Even as I speak the pavement is being taken up and the lowered kerbs being put in. (Tuesday 18th August 2009 11.45 a.m.)

Road Safety Issues in Finningley.

After continued concerns about the following,

·The lack of dropped kerbs outside the Post Office making it impossible for users of wheel chairs, mobility scooters and mothers with pushchairs to cross from the St Oswald Close/ Drive area of the village.

·The obstruction of pavements by cars in many areas of the village    and

·The obstruction by dustbins which have been abandoned by Sita operatives in the middle of pavements after they have been emptied.

the Parish Plan Group wrote to the Parish and Ward Councillors about these matters.

The matters were referred to D.M.B.C and as a result a site meeting was held with Mr. Stephen Racjan, the Neighbourhood Officer for the south region of Doncaster, on Friday 12th. Of June, 2009.

The three points were discussed and Mr. Racjan promised to pursue the matter of the dropped kerbs with Mr. David Worthington,Senior Engineer for Traffic Management, and having done so informed us that the matter would be considered favourably if a safe point for crossing could be established.

The problem of the dustbins had been addressed before but he said he would approach Sita again, however, he could promise no permanent solution

The problem of cars blocking pavements was recognised and the matter previously addressed, with little effect, however, he did suggest that letters, requesting consideration for pedestrians, be sent to persistent offenders.

We are presently awaiting developments and will endeavour to keep residents informed.

Watch out there's a Speed Gun about

Funding by local Parish Councils is in place and when all things are sorted the speed gun will be used in the Village 9 hours per week and will be operated solely by the Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Thursday 19th March 2009

A haulage lorry takes out a wall on the corner of Doncaster Road opposite the Chinese takeaway.  It is understood that the incident took place around 8 o'clock this morning.

Traffic ground to a standstill as police and a recovery vehicle sought to remove a lorry that had somehow managed to plough into the wall on the bend whilst heading into the village from the Blaxton direction.  As a result drivers are recommended to head out towards Wroot or Bawtry to avoid delay.

Police were on site at the time that these photographs were taken.

Finningley Road Safety - An Update

NEW SIGNS FOR WROOT ROAD CORNER - 21ST JANUARY 2009

As this is being typed signs are being adjusted outside on the sharp corner of Wroot Road - this, hopefully is the start of numerous alterations to take place at this location in the forthcoming weeks.  We have been informed by DMBC Highways that this should include:

  • Replacement of bend warning signs with larger ones
  • Better directional signs on same corner which will hopefully stop traffic parking up on blind bend asking for directions.
  • When signs have been replaced double yellow lines will be painted on appropriate roads at corner and leading off

PETITIONS

Petitions are still being taken around the Village asking for support towards better Road Safety measures in Finningley Village.  Since October we have managed to collect from approximately 60% of the Finningley dwellings (680 total dwellings). Those involved are re-visiting areas to try and get a signature and comment from as many parishioners as possible.  The petitions have now been removed from the Doctors and local Post Office.  If you would like to add your name please email finroadsafety@live.com giving contact details.

CONCERNS ACROSS THE WHOLE VILLAGE

When all roads in Finningley have been visited the "comments" will be collated and passed onto the DMBC Highways and other relevant groups.  Numerous email correspondence with the DMBC has already taken place highlighting many concerns across the village.  These include cars speeding on numerous roads and out of the playing fields car park.  If you would like a copy please email finroadsafety@live.com with your request.

DMBC FUNDING FOR BETTER HAZARD WARNING SIGNS

The DMBC is at present unable to fund better hazard warning signs - for example flashing mileage - as statistics for Finningley Village show we do not have a high enough injury rate.  Locals will know that there are many safety issues with roads through Finningley and we are lucky that no-one has been killed.  Many of these concerns and the explanations around the restrictions for funding are in email correspondence with DMBC Highways.  Requests for copies can be made at finroadsafety@live.comIt is hoped that the petitions and collaboration with relevant committees, councils and government representatives will help achieve funding for better road safety measures in Finningley Village.

NON-INJURY STATISTICS

Numerous communications have been made with various organisations to try and achieve the details of accidents within Finningley Village that have not resulted in injury.  So far no information has been received,  however, it has now been confirmed that only those accidents that require police intervention and result in injury are then accountable towards funding for better road safety measures.  Despite this, we would still like to be kept informed of any accidents or incidents that occur in Finningley.  For example, two lorries were unable to pass on Wroot Corner and one had to mount the path nearly hitting a man walking his dog.  In another incident a pedestrian was apparently clipped by a passing vehicle whilst walking on the pavement across from the doctors.  For other incidents any witnesses that can collaborate and details such as date, times and vehicle registration would be very useful.  Please email this information to finroadsafety@live.com
